Today I had the pleasure of returning to MY former grade school and presenting programs to the students and staff.
What a wonderful experience to return to the place where I was first inspired by my own awesome teachers. In 5th grade, my teacher Mr. Ozee, invited students to write an essay for an Arbor Day competition. I wrote about the beauty of forests and how I treasured Joyce Kilmer's famous poem, Trees, which my father had read aloud to me many times. (It was his favorite poem.) I couldn't believe when I actually WON the contest! From that moment on, I thought of myself as a writer. Also it was pretty cool to leave school mid-day and plant a tree at a local park in honor of Arbor Day. So you never know which event or which teacher will inspire you in your journey! Thank you, John S. Clark School!
